SPL Powerlines UK has officially entered the UK and Ireland’s energy infrastructure market, marking an exciting new chapter in the company’s growth and diversification strategy.

Building on its strong track record in rail electrification - one of the most highly regulated industries in the UK - SPL Powerlines UK is transferring its specialist capabilities, rigorous safety standards, and disciplined project delivery approach into another highly regulated sector: energy infrastructure.

The company is extending its expertise into the delivery of high-voltage energy projects, including grid connections and substation works, and has now achieved NERS (National Electricity Registration Scheme) accreditation - a key industry standard recognising competence and compliance for Independent Connection Providers (ICPs) working on UK power networks.

This strategic expansion positions SPL Powerlines UK to support the UK and Ireland’s transition to a low-carbon energy future, leveraging its proven engineering excellence, robust safety culture, and collaborative approach to deliver complex infrastructure solutions with precision and reliability.

“Our entry into the energy sector is a natural evolution for SPL Powerlines UK,” said Martin Hawley, Managing Director. “Having developed our expertise in one of the most tightly regulated sectors – rail - we’re well placed to apply that same discipline, safety focus, and technical capability to energy. With our NERS accreditation and highly skilled in-house delivery team, we’re ready to play a leading role in enabling the energy transition and strengthening power networks across the UK and Ireland.”

“Based on our extensive experience in the energy sector in Europe, expanding into the UK and Irish market is a logical and strategic step for us,” added Berthold Bartsch, Powerlines CEO. “For decades, we’ve successfully delivered large-scale high-voltage transmission projects and collaborated with major grid operators in Austria and Germany. This proven track record enables us to transfer our knowledge seamlessly into the UK and Ireland - diversifying our services while maintaining the high standards of engineering and safety that define our success.”
