Efficient, clean, electric: Powerlines installs Charging Infrastructure for Team Sauberes Karlsruhe

The electrification of municipal utility vehicle fleets is a key component of sustainable mobility. Team Sauberes Karlsruhe (TSK) initiated this transition at an early stage and, together with Powerlines, implemented a powerful and scalable charging infrastructure that is already being expanded following its successful commissioning.

The goal is to reliably supply and manage energy for electric waste collection vehicles without compromising efficiency or operational safety. A decisive factor for TSK was Powerlines’ strong service philosophy, ensuring that the charging infrastructure is not only built but also operated with high availability over the long term, with disruptions quickly and professionally resolved.

The operations depot at Ottostraße in Karlsruhe serves as the logistical hub of the municipal service provider. From here, 50 waste collection vehicles head out into the city early each morning. Since 2024, TSK has tendered seven electric collection vehicles in the first phase, followed by 11 additional ones in 2025.

To implement the charging infrastructure, TSK collaborated with a strong network of technology and infrastructure partners. Powerlines was responsible for the complete installation of the Kempower charging hardware, including integration into the existing infrastructure. The implementation of IO-Dynamics’ intelligent charging management system reduces peak loads and increases the use of locally generated PV electricity.

For TSK, ensuring the long-term performance of all charging points was of central importance. Since failures in daily waste management operations would have severe consequences, Powerlines’ service capabilities played a decisive role in partner selection. Powerlines impressed with a unique, nationwide service model that guarantees rapid response times, high technical expertise, and reliable support during ongoing operation.
