Charging Infrastructure for Ports & Freight Terminals
High Performance, Scalable and Reliable
Ports and freight terminals are central hubs of modern supply chains. Transshipment processes must operate quickly, efficiently and accurately – around the clock. With the increasing electrification of terminal vehicles, trucks and logistics processes, the demand for reliable high‑power charging solutions continues to grow. Powerlines develops robust, future-proof charging infrastructure that fully meets the demanding requirements of port and terminal operations.

Solutions for demanding logistics environments
Whether container terminals, RoRo ports, intermodal hubs or large freight handling sites: we plan and implement charging hubs designed for the intensive operations and high energy demands of heavy-duty logistics locations.
Operators benefit from:
- scalable charging capacities
- robust technology for harsh outdoor conditions
- reliable energy supply even under high simultaneity
- efficient load management for optimal grid utilization
Precise planning for 24/7 operations
Planning charging infrastructure for ports and terminals requires a deep understanding of local operational processes. Powerlines therefore considers:
- traffic flows of heavy-duty vehicles
- transshipment cycles
- shift models
- as well as the grid connection situation
and future electrification stages.
Already in the concept phase, energy consumption is analyzed and vehicle cycles are simulated. The result is a site‑optimized overall concept that meets both current and long-term requirements.
Reliable implementation by experienced expert teams
Large terminals require smooth project execution. As a general contractor, Powerlines manages the complete technical implementation – from civil engineering and installation to commissioning – and ensures, thanks to its in‑house installation team:
- short installation periods
- precise and safe execution
- continuous coordination with port and terminal operators
This ensures that logistics processes remain largely unaffected during construction.
Maximum availability through service & maintenance
Port and freight terminal operations cannot tolerate downtime. That’s why Powerlines offers comprehensive service packages, including:
- preventive maintenance
- rapid response times in case of malfunctions
- technical optimization during ongoing operations
This ensures that the charging infrastructure remains fully operational – a crucial factor for continuous transshipment processes.
Energy-efficient & future-oriented
With rising energy demand, Powerlines also supports terminal operators in:
- integrating photovoltaic systems and storage solutions
- establishing intelligent energy management systems (EMS)
- scaling charging hubs for growing electric fleets
These measures enable lower long-term operating costs and contribute to a more sustainable logistics environment.

KTL Kombi-Terminal Ludwigshafen GmbH
KTL Kombi-Terminal Ludwigshafen is one of the largest, most modern, and most efficient road-rail transshipment terminals in Europe. With around 160 employees operating on an area of approximately 300,000 m², more than 1,200 loading units are handled every day.
Combined road and rail freight transport significantly and sustainably reduces CO₂ emissions. In addition, KTL is committed to innovative solutions for a greener terminal, including its own fast-charging stations for electric vehicles.
Powerlines supported KTL in Ludwigshafen with consulting, planning, cable installation, and the setup of five charging points with capacities ranging from 240 to 400 kW. This enables the simultaneous charging of five vehicles.
