Conductor rails – also known as “third rails” – are a key element in ensuring maximum mobility at peak times on undergrounds, metro systems and metropolitan railways. Their function is to transmit electrical energy safely and reliably to the rail vehicles. These conductor rails are located in the immediate vicinity of the tracks. Like a dense network of arteries running alongside each track, they supply the trains with electricity via an extra heavy-duty conductor. Depending on the requirements of the line, the current may be fed to the train in one of three different ways: from below, from above, or from the side. The Powerlines Group’s third rail is designed as a flexible modular system. Individual optimally matched components and modules are assembled depending on the track conditions and requirements.
